Hurricane Florence has brought sustained winds of 90 mph and will continue to bring catastrophic flash flooding to the Carolinas and surrounding states.
A buoy off the North Carolina coast has recorded waves nearly 30 feet (9 meters) high as Florence churned toward shore. Forecasters said conditions will deteriorate as the storm pushes ashore this morning near the North Carolina/South Carolina coastline and make its way slowly inland. It’s surge could cover most of the Carolina coast putting it as much as 11 feet (3.4m) under water, and days of downpours could unload more than 3 feet (0.9m) of rain, causing severe flooding.
Over 2 million coastal residents have had mandatory evacuation orders and another 8 million people live in areas covered by hurricane and tropical storm warnings. We have many customers and partners that are among these in harm’s way and with the threat to life being a true reality and wide spread devastation to people’s homes expected, the Murray Percival Co. has already started to raise funds for emergency medicine, supplies and other humanitarian aid. We join many others donating to AmeriCares who will be responding to the urgent needs of the thousands of people facing the potential impact of Hurricane Florence from now and many days to come.
We would like to encourage others to join us in supporting the clean-up and help bring aid to the people directly affected but the storm.
AmeriCares, states that “Every $10 donated = $100 in aid and your gift’s impact is multiplied because we deliver medicine and aid to local health providers that live & work in the community. Your gift goes where it is needed most, because it’s put in the hands of people the community knows and trusts.”
